about

“ORGANICITY”, Sonique´s new EP, explores a sound aiming to blur the line bewteen synthetic and organic sound. Recorded entirely “by hand”, without the use of MIDI sequencing or quantization, establishing a “humanized feel”. Each track explores connections between different localized musical genres, trying to join the geographical dots between them. Bahía (Intro), with B Kalm for Real (Andrés Muñoz Sarmiento) on flute, is a samba / jazz with synthwave touches. Just Be Good, with the additional voices of brazilian singer Amarilis, is a fusion of the “lusophone triangle”, combining brazilian maracatú, angolan samba, and cabo verdean coladeira. Funk Noir pt.1 is a south african afro house beat, with traditional guadeloupean Gwo Ka percussions and trinitarian steel pan. Field Trip, featuring colombian spanish collective Coroncoro La Nueva Rosca, includes two colombian folclore legends Álvaro LLerena on alegre drum and chocoan musician Nicoyembe on tambora, propelling a bullerengue soul. Finally Funk Noir pt. 2 is a disco house beat, spiced with percussive patterns from dominican merengue, a son montuno bass line and esthetics reminiscent of tukish and indian disco from the early 80s.
